Will I lead a normal life after thyroid surgery?

Typically, patients do really well and have a long, happy, healthy life. Following thyroid surgery, patients need to follow up with either an endocrinologist or their primary care provider to monitor their thyroid hormone levels. If the patient was surgically treated for thyroid cancer, they would need to follow-up with their endocrinologist on a regular basis to monitor for cancer recurrence.

Normally, patients do really well, but occasionally there are people who have a difficult time getting their unique thyroid hormone dose perfected. This can require some patience at times, but with careful follow-up with an endocrinologist, this can be achieved in almost all cases.

Even if a patient has thyroid cancer, most people live a long, happy, healthy life. Thyroid cancer has an excellent survival rate of 97-98%.
